The Quick Access Toolbar
A small strip of buttons that never changes, whatever tab you are on. Put the commands you use constantly there.
Your Own Toolbar
The ribbon changes as you switch tabs. The Quick Access Toolbar does not. Whatever you put there is available from every tab, always.
- Find the strip — Above or below the ribbon
- Add a command — Right-click any button
- Use it anywhere — It never changes
How to do it
Right-click any ribbon button ▸ Add to Quick Access Toolbar
Each button on the toolbar gets an Alt shortcut: Alt+1, Alt+2, Alt+3 and so on, in order.

Worth Adding

Result: Alt + number
Order matters. The leftmost button is Alt + 1, the next is Alt + 2, and so on.
Do this
- Add the four commands you use most
- Learn their Alt numbers
- Put the toolbar below the ribbon for a shorter mouse trip
Avoid
- Adding twenty commands you never use
- Reordering it and breaking your Alt shortcuts
- Forgetting the toolbar exists at all
📌 Put Paste Values on the toolbar. It becomes Alt + a number and saves you thousands of clicks.
